The La Gerla 2016 Birba opens to wild berry, forest floor, red currant, licorice and light spice or smoke. This is an informal and food-friendly Tuscan red that happily delivers enough territory-specific character to pair with gnocchi and spinach or thick pici noodles with wild boar ragù. There is a pretty note of sweet cherry on the soft and mild finish. Only 7,000 bottles were made.
