A blend of 80% Grenache (maturing in demi-muids and foudre) and 20% Syrah (in used barriques), the 2020 Cotes du Rhone Les Quartz was entirely destemmed, yet it offers up seductive floral-herbal notes of rose garden alongside raspberries and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, silky and voluminous on the palate, it finishes long and elegant. It's another terrific wine that should prove relatively affordable upon release.

Hints of lavender and licorice add nuance to the ripe black cherries of the 2019 Cotes du Rhone Les Quartz. An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Syrah, it's full-bodied, velvety in texture and long, finishing with a flourish of ripe tannins.

Slightly bigger and more structured than the "Garrigues" bottling, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone Les Quartz boasts hints of bay leaf and violets accenting cherry and leather notes. Full-bodied and admirably concentrated, framed by silky tannins, this blend of Grenache and Syrah finishes long and savory. It should drink well for at least five years.

Lastly (there’s no C?tes du Rh?ne Reserve in 2014), the 2014 C?tes du Rh?ne Villages Les Quartz is borderline outstanding, with medium-bodied notes of black cherries, dried herbs, licorice and crushed flowers. Like a lot of high quality 2014s, it’s dead ringer for a Pinot Noir (but a good Pinot Noir!).

The 2013 C?tes du Rh?ne Villages les Quartz is one of the top C?tes du Rh?ne in the vintage. Made from 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah that was vinified in concrete tank, and aged in a combination of foudre and demi-muids (this is the larger oak barrels common in the region), its mostly opaque ruby color is followed by classic notes of Proven?al herbs, white pepper, orange rind and sweet black raspberry fruit. Medium-bodied, nicely concentrated and with the austere edge of the vintage, it will be better this time next year and drink nicely through 2023.
