The 2010 Pino & Toi is a pretty, entry-level white graced with crisp pears, flowers and apples, all of which come together in an attractive mid-weight style best suited for near-term drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014. This is another strong set of wines from Fausto Maculan, one of the leading lights in Veneto. My only real criticism is that the top reds are being released far too early for wines of such pedigree. These wines rank among the very best being made anywhere, but it is not surprising they remain relatively unknown considering they arrive in the marketplace too young to be fully appreciated. The 2006 Pino & Toi (60% Tocai, 25% Pinot Bianco, 15% Pinot Grigio) is a clean, crisp, refreshing white with plenty of fruit and a lingering note of sweetness that carries through to the finish. It is an excellent choice for casual drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2008. From top to bottom the most impressive line-up I tasted from Veneto were the wines of Fausto Maculan. Readers will find no shortage of compelling wines at all price points. Maculan remains best known for his sweet wines, but readers will also want to check out some of his table wines from the superb 2004 vintage.
