The 1987 Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Dominaudes should have shown better, but I suspect it is going through a tough, tannic, closed stage, as wines from this vineyard have a tendency to do. There is good acidity, excellent color, and an impression of weight and ripeness on the palate, but the wine was impenetrable and difficult to assess. I am sure the wine is better than I have rated it, but I would not want to open a bottle until 1992-1993; it should keep for at least 10 to 12 years. This old-line, traditional negociant believes in making deeply colored, robust, muscular wines that age extremely well.
