The 2012 Reserva seems to follow the new blend of Tempranillo with 10% Graciano, as they have regrafted the Mazuelo they used to have into Tempranillo, and the quantity of Graciano has increased slightly (as they already have 18 hectares and they buy some grapes). The wine matured in American oak barrels for 23 months. The wine is obviously oaky with plenty of coconut and vanilla, with a touch of sawdust. 2012 was a very concentrated vintage, but the Riscal vines somehow produced high yields. The palate is polished and soft, approachable and easy to drink, ending slightly warm with some development. There are 4.1 million bottles produced, up from three million in 2010!

A classic among classics, the 2010 Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo with 7% Graciano and 3% Mazuelo that is polished and developed showing clean, tertiary aromas and focused flavors framed by fully resolved tannins. It is approachable, easy to understand and finishes with a tasty, lactic note. Believe it or not, there are three million bottles of this wine, the question is how homogeneous are the different lots.
