The 2009 Nebbiolo d’Alba La Val dei Preti is a big, expansive wine loaded with sweet red cherries, crushed flowers and spices. There is plenty of texture and depth in the glass, but the wine turns a bit diffuse on the mid-palate as it loses an element of focus and sheer energy leading to the finish. The 2008 Nebbiolo d’Alba La Val dei Preti bursts from the glass with dark red fruit, flowers and French oak. It is a decidedly opulent, full-bodied Nebbiolo with tons of volume and textural richness, partly from low yields and partly from aging in French oak barrels. It is a beautiful wine, but I wonder if this fruit really needs all the make up. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. The 2007 Nebbiolo d'Alba La Val dei Preti is a soft, seamless Nebbiolo that impresses for its fine overall balance. Soft and seamless on the palate, the wine offers up a gorgeous array of red cherries, dried flowers and spices in an accessible and attractive style. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015. These new releases from Correggia are impressive for their consistency, drinkability and varietal trueness. The 2001 Nebbiolo d’Alba La Val dei Preti, happily, indicates that things are back in stride. Everything is in place here, from the dark garnet color to the strawberry, rose petal, and balsamic nose and ample, textured flavors of ripe red fruit, incense, and cedar, warm and enveloping on the finish and aftertaste. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2016.The Correggia family is fortunately back at work after the tragic death of Matteo Corregia in a freak tractor accident, operating with an in-house oenologist and the outside assistance of Giorgio Rivetti.
