Lastly, notes of smoked meats, charcuterie, pepper and mulled red and black fruits all emerge from the 2013 Syrah les Galets Vineyard, which has plenty of charm, top notch purity, polished tannin and full-bodied richness. It comes from a single vineyard and was fermented with lots of whole cluster and aged 22 months in barrel. It's another high quality wine from winemaker McPrice Myers that will put a smile on your face over the coming 7-8 years.

Another wine from McPrice that needs short-term cellaring, the 2012 Syrah les Galets Vineyard (100% Syrah aged 22 months in barrel) exhibits lots of black fruits, liquid rock (this cuvee is always the most mineral-driven of all of McPrice's wines), smoked earth and ground pepper. Full-bodied, tannic and structured, give it at least 2-3 years in the cellar.

Every bit as good, if not a touch better, the 2010 Syrah Les Galets Vineyard delivers a deep, meaty style with notions of currants, blackberry, smoked meat, cracked pepper, tobacco and masses of crushed stone / mineral qualities emerging from the glass. A full-bodied effort, with a voluptuous richness that comes through more with air, it stays beautifully light and clean on the palate, with little apparent weight. More structure and tannin emerge on the finish and, like all of McPrice’s 2010s, it needs short-term cellaring to come together. It is a gorgeous Syrah and will shine for over a decade. Drink 2014-2020. These 2010s and 2011s from McPrice are straight up fantastic. Very classy and pure, they all benefitted from substantial air time and deserve another year or two in the cellar. In addition to delivering rock-star quality, they also represent superb values. This is another Paso Robles producer who has consistently produced outstanding wines that remain more than reasonably priced given their quality. They merit serious attention! Tel. From a vineyard in Arroyo Grande, the 2009 Syrah Les Galets is richer, darker and spicier than the Larner. Black pepper, tapenade, grilled herbs and flowers all come together in this virile, imposing wine. The Galets marries expressive varietal notes with massive fruit and equally imposing tannins. It needs at least another 6-12 months to start showing at its best, but it is magnificent, even today. The Galets was fermented with 40% whole clusters and aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, 60% new. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2019. The 2008 Les Galets shows some of the wilder elements of Syrah in its dark fruit, grilled herbs, minerals and creme de cassis.
