Floral with orange blossom and lemon zest aromas that follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and a crisp and delicious finish. Attractive energy and agility. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, sangiovese, syrah and teroldego. Drink now.

A bend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, 10% Syrah and 10% Teroldego, the Michele Satta 2020 Bolgheri Rosso is an easygoing wine with dark fruit, tobacco, cigar, terracotta and scorched earth. There is some sour cherry at its core with nice freshness to follow. This is an ample production of 86,000 bottles.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah and Teroldego come together to form the 2015 Bolgheri Rosso. This warm vintage is known for richness and concentration. To my tastes, this wine goes overboard with syrupy black fruit that borders on dried prune and black olive. The finish is sweet and heavy. I'm not a huge fan of this wine.

Michele Satta's 2013 Bolgheri Rosso hits all the right buttons. This is a complete and generous wine with loads of bright fruit intensity followed by balanced notes of spice, leather and tobacco. These aromas are well measured to contrast one another. The mouthfeel is generous and round without going overboard. There is a great sense of balance and harmony here.

Light ruby in appearance, the 2012 Bolgheri Rosso is a forthcoming and honest rendition made with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, 10% Syrah and 10% Terlodego. As is to be expected of a complicated blend like this, there is not much in the way of varietal identity. But the point here is “Bolgheri.” Michele Satta seeks to paint a portrait of this seaside wine zone with aromas of brimstone, grilled herb and ripe fruit.
