Made with mostly Sangiovese and smaller percentages of Malvasia Nera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano, Marselan and Alicante Bouschet, the 2021 A Quo offers intense fragrances that span from blackberry to dark rose—like one of those deep purple blooms you might see at a specialized florist. It is densely textured with a solid structure. A Quo is a wine of exceptional value, with 73,000 bottles on the market.

A blend of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Montepulciano, 15% Sangiovese, 15% Marselan and 5% Alicante Bouschet, the Montepeloso 2018 A Quo is the entry-level expression that unfolds to a rich and sultry display of dark fruit, spice and a touch of charred meat. The blend is quite eccentric, but the basic elements are all there, such as the structure from the Cabernet Sauvignon, the wild character of the Montepulciano and the perfumed intensity of the other grapes. This is a 35,000-bottle production and a terrific value buy.

The Montepeloso 2015 A Quo is a nicely integrated blend of Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. This medium to full-bodied wine shows excellent results and great harmony in this warm vintage, with the aromatic and fruity intensity of the Montepulciano that is contrasted seamlessly against the power and the freshness of the other two varieties.

This wine pours from the bottle with dark and luscious intensity. The 2014 A Quo (Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese) shows a ripe and robust bouquet with black cherry, plum and fresh prune. The bouquet is complete and intense. The wine shows similar power in the mouth, thanks to its textural richness and long-lasting flavors.

A little oaky on first nose, the 2013 A Quo is a robust red blend based primarily on Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. The quality of the primary fruit is succulent, plump and rich. So are the background aromas of cinnamon, vanilla bean and toasted almond. This was a good vintage across Tuscany. The finish is exceedingly rich and supple with firmly yielding tannins. Give this wine a year or two to find greater harmony in the bottle. Those oak notes still need to integrate.
