A best-barrels blend, this year drawn primarily from the family's Oakville estate vineyard, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnement is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged entirely in new French oak. Despite that, there's awesome purity to this wine's fruit expression, with cassis and deep, loamy notes taking the lead. Full-bodied, richly concentrated and creamy-textured on the mid-palate, it finishes long and velvety. Wow.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnement is a barrel selection blend of all three of Morlet's estate vineyards: Coeur de Vallée in Oakville, Morlet Estate in St. Helena and Mon Chevalier in Knights Valley. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, it reveals a deep garnet-purple color and vibrant notes of crushed black and red currants, Morello cherries and boysenberries with suggestions of menthol, Indian spices, black truffles and pencil shavings. The big, concentrated, full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit layers with a velvety texture and plenty of freshness, finishing long with a spicy kick. 270 cases were made.

Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 85% of the fruit in this barrel selection wine comes from Beckstoffer’s To Kalon and Missouri Hopper vineyards, while 10% is from the Morlet Estate vineyard in St. Helena, and 5% comes from the Mon Chevalier vineyard in Knights Valley. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnement gives up wonderfully fragrant notes of wilted roses, candied violets and black cherry compote with a core of crème de cassis, star anise, pencil shavings and unsmoked cigars plus a touch of bouquet garni. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers impressive energy with a firm, grainy texture and plenty of freshness, finishing long with lots of earthy/mineral layers. Should age beautifully! 270 cases were made.

Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnement leaps from the glass with notes of licorice, chocolate mint, warm cassis, plum preserves, charcoal and smoked meats with touches of lilacs and cedar chest plus a waft of pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a quiet intensity at first that grows exponentially in the mouth into an aria of epic proportions, revealing layer upon layer of savory/sweet flavors, bags of black fruits and tons of spicy sparks all within a firm, very finely grained frame, finishing very long and with compelling minerality. This is a staggeringly stunning and very singular Cabernet achievement by Luc Morlet—bravo! 250 cases were produced, which will be released in the fall of 2019.

Displaying a deep garnet-purple color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnement has crushed black currants and black plums with touches of dark chocolate, espresso, spice box and sautéed herbs. Full-on expressive and packed with cassis and spicy flavor layers, with finely grained tannins and great freshness, it finishes very long on an earthy note. 250 cases were made.
