The dark ruby/garnet 2009 (90% Grenache and 10% Syrah) has a sexy, up-front, open-knit nose of red and black fruits, loamy soil undertones, and Provencal herbs. Full-bodied, powerful, but silky smooth, it should be drunk over the next decade. The winemaker here, Serge Mouriesse, is also the winemaker at Mont Tabor. The 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape Pierre d’Amber reveals good ripeness, elegance and a pleasant, straightforward style with abundant black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with underbrush and soil overtones. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. A Chateauneuf du Pape oenologist produced these three cuvees. Both reds are made from 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah and are aged in a combination of small barrels and stainless steel tanks. The qualitative difference between these two vintages was less marked than expected.No known American importer.
