If you're looking for a truly excellent entry-level value wine from Piedmont, look no further than the Paitin 2017 Nebbiolo d'Alba Ca Veja. This 18,000-bottle release is elegant, fine and even fragile. Wild cherry, cassis, candied orange peel and rusted iron ore emerge from the glass. The tannins are silky and carefully integrated into the wine's slender frame. This is an impressive effort, especially considering the affordable price point. I would buy this wine over any number of higher priced Nebbiolo-based wines (including some bottles of Barbaresco and Barolo).
