The 2008 Pinot Noir Verde Vineyard is a blend of several quality terroirs that was aged for 16 months in 30% new oak. It presents the same issues as the Winemaker’s Cuvee; pleasant on the surface but with little substance underneath. It is severely lacking in mid-palate concentration, something difficult to achieve in 2008. Panther Creek’s wines have been less than inspiring in recent years. I find it surprising that in a great vintage like 2008, three of the eight wines presented could not be recommended and only one barely qualified as outstanding. Not to be too harsh on Panther Creek, no one will be offended by these wines. In fact, most imbibers will enjoy them. However, compared to what they used to achieve and the quality of the 2008 vintage, in that context these are disappointing wines.Tel. (503) 472-8080; www.panthercreekcellars.com
