The 2007 Parrina Riserva impresses for its silky tannins and beautifully delineated ripe red fruit. Soft and seamless through to the finish, the estate’s Riserva captures the open, expansive qualities that are so typical of this vintage. Today the Riserva is mostly about fruit, but more complex tertiary aromas and flavors should develop with further cellaring. The 2006 Parrina Riserva is a mirror image of the 2007. Where its younger sibling is warm, opulent and radiant, the 2006 is cool, reserved and inward. Dark cherries, flowers, minerals, wild sage, menthol, smoke and underbrush are just some of the nuances that flow from this structured, powerful Riserva. Ultimately the 2006 is the more interesting wine, but it may require more patience, and will always be firmer. It is exceptionally beautiful by any measure. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. The 2005 Parrina Riserva (70% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot) is a gorgeous wine laced with perfumed dark fruit.
