Named after a vineyard they have that is on clay and rolling stone soils at 750 meters in altitude in the village of La Morera, the 2013 Finca La Planeta is an unusual blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Garnacha from vines planted in 1986. It fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak barrels for 36 months. It's very oaky and slightly international. The palate reveals oaky flavors. For fans of oaky reds.

The 2009 Finca La Planeta is a blend of 30-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon on chalky soils and 60-year-old Garnacha on slate soils which smells of Belgian chocolate and vanilla with a core of ripe blackberries and hints of black olives. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with some dusty tannins and persistent flavors, quite powerful, ending with a slightly bitter sensation. Those tannins should be tamed with some powerful food. Drink 2014-2019. Celler Pasanau surprised people with a powerful Cabernet from chalky soils, something unusual in Priorat, at the end of the 1990s. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Garnacha, the 2008 Finca la Planeta has a very ripe, ostentatious nose with macerated dark cherries and fresh prune, a charred note more evident on a second bottle. The palate is full-bodied with fine chewy tannins. It is more complex than the nose suggests, with attractive liquorice, raisin and blackberry notes and a fine, slightly grainy texture on the oaky, medicinal finish. This would be better if it dispensed with its sur-maturite on the nose. Drink now-2018. The vines of Celler Pasanau stand at 700-metres altitude along the rocky wall of the Sierra de Montsant. Both the Ceps Nous and El Vell Coster represent outstanding quality irrespective of their price, although the three-hectare Finca La Planeta succumbs towards over-ripeness, and a more mature example was acceptable, rather than totally convincing. The 2007 Finca La Planeta, sourced from a single vineyard, is made up of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon along with 20% old-vine Garnacha aged in new French oak. The 2006 Finca la Planeta is composed of an atypical Priorato blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Garnacha aged for 1 year in French oak. It gives up earthy, mineral, and crushed stone aromas along with pepper, espresso, and black cherry. Structured and concentrated in the mouth, it will evolve for 2-3 years and deliver optimal drinking from 2012 to 2021. Celler Pasanau’s two offerings are excellent.
