The wine is streamlined and tight with rose petal, ash, pressed violets and volcanic stone. There is a touch of saltiness on the close of this lean-bodied red. This scorching-hot vintage falls flat compared to previous editions.

The well-priced 2016 Aglianico del Vulture Synthesi is a streamlined and immediate wine to enjoy within the next five years or so. The wine shows purity and focus with dark fruit aromas of dried cherry and blackcurrant followed by spice, tar and scorched earth.
