The 2009 Dolcetto d’Alba Munfrina is a beautiful bottle of wine. This is Pelissero’s more traditional Dolcetto. The marriage of firm, tense structure and the warmth of the vintage make for a wonderfully complete, harmonious wine. Varietal dark fruit, tobacco, new leather and licorice linger on the firm, nuanced finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014. Pelissero is one of my favorite producers in Barbaresco. The 2008 Dolcetto d’Alba Munfrina is unusual for the degree of complexity it shows in its dark fruit, menthol, licorice and spices. It is a touch lean on the palate, and with a little more depth to the fruit it might very well merit a higher score. Still, the wine offers excellent balance, not to mention plenty of style.
