Before embarking on the Pinot Noirs, it should be noted that Penner-Ash’s 2007 Syrah is a strong effort, one of the best I have tasted from a strictly Oregon AVA. The fruit was sourced from the Columbia and Rogue Valleys and was enhanced by the addition of 12% Viognier. Aromas of smoked meat, game, lavender, and blueberry lead to a medium to full-bodied wine with some elegance, excellent grip, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. It is difficult to forecast an aging curve for a wine with no track record, but it will certainly provide pleasure over the next 6-8 years. Lynn Penner-Ash took full advantage of the outstanding Pinot Noir fruit provided by the 2008 vintage.www.pennerash.com
