Very pure and minerally nose that delivers a stony, precise feel, almost like sniffing a quarry. Some smoked tarragon and lemon zest, too. Impressive mid-palate tension here with nervy acidity and minerality. Pure and long. Delicious now.

The 2019 Etna Bianco Archineri (with 7,000 bottles produced) is a pure expression of Carricante from pre-phylloxera vines. The wine is made in stainless steel and you get a very pure and precise taste of the grape as a result. This was a great growing season on Etna, resulting in nicely concentrated and shapely fruit, so that simple winemaking approach is well matched to the elegance of vintage material on hand. Peach, honey and crushed stone rise to the forefront of the bouquet.

The 2018 Etna Bianco Archineri is slightly rounder and more robust (compared to the entry-level Etna Bianco) with rich aromas of white peach and melon. This mid-weight expression is also creamier and more intricate in terms of texture, and much of this is due to the advanced age of the pre-Phylloxera vines used to make Archineri, some of which are over 130 years old. This wine delivers a larger center of gravity, and it lacks that super chiseled sharpness and delineation you get in the other Bianco. This bottle reveals a more sophisticated approach and longer cellar-aging potential. Only 5,000 bottles were made.

The 2017 Etna Bianco Archineri shows a mild and subtle bouquet with distant tones of crushed mineral followed by dried citrus, white apricot and dried sage. That subtle personality grows with time, and the wine needs a little extra time to open. It goes from citrus and grapefruit to crushed stone, yellow rose and honeysuckle. The finish is lean but zesty and crisp. Old vines are used to make this wine, some as old as 130 years old. Only 3,000 bottles were produced.

Tasted in the summer of 2022, this library wine shows impressive tension and tonic freshness. Made solely with Carricante, the 2016 Etna Bianco Archineri maintains a light and luminous shine. The bouquet has started to transition to some Riesling-like aromas of petroleum wax and dried nectarine. This is an impressive white that shows no signs of slowing down.
