The 2001 Corbezzolo, 100% Merlot, competes with the best wines from this variety in Chianti Classico with its sizeable nose of warm and spicy plum fruit, large-scaled body, ample texture, and long, rich finish. Still a bit tannic and austere, it will repay a bit of patience and drink best from 2007 to 2020. The 1997 and 1999 versions of the wine are both drinking beautifully at the moment, and, with a similarly positive evolution in the bottle, the score of this 2001 could well go even higher in the future.
