The 2010 Isabel Negra is a blend of Monastrell from a plot of vines planted in 1974 in their property and young Cabernet Sauvignon which they planted in 2006. The wine aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and displays aromas of raspberry leaves, freshly ground pepper, roasted coffee, chocolate and dark plums, with a juicy, meaty palate, round, saturated tannins and moderate acidity. Drink now-2017. I also tasted a pure Monastrell from 2008, which I found too reductive and could not recommend.
Raventos i Blanc produce a majority of sparkling wines from their property on the banks of the Anoia River, which is within the geographical limits of Penedes. They also produce still wines, mainly a white from Xarello and some reds, but Pepe Raventos, winemaker and current head of the winery, told me that he-s going to concentrate on sparkling wines and whites only.
