An unusual blend for Southern Italy, the Re Manfredi 2018 Bianco is a mix of Müller Thurgau and Traminer. As is to be expected, the bouquet is sweet-smelling and floral with candied orange peel, acacia honey, sun-dried apricot and Indian jasmine. In the mouth, this white wine is waxy and slightly creamy, ending with a mild touch of sweet softness. Drink this wine within the next 18 months.

Basilicata is not known for its white wines, so the Re Manfredi 2017 Bianco comes out of left field. The blend here is Müller Thurgau and Traminer. The wine shows floral fragrances, with honeysuckle and yellow rose at the top. Peach and cantaloupe melon aromas also appear at the back. Some 150,000 bottles were made.

Basilicata lacks a meaningful production of white wines and there has been a lot of work recently to fill in this void. The Re Manfredi 2015 Bianco is one such attempt. The blend here is Müller Thurgau and Traminer which seems like an ambitious choice given the centuries-old tradition of planting Aglianico in these parts. Fruit comes from a 20-hectare plot planted at lower elevations on volcanic soils. The bouquet offers ripe aromas of exotic fruit and papaya with jasmine and honeysuckle at the back. The results are simple and streamlined.
