The pale, young and fruit-driven white 2017 Remírez de Ganuza Blanco is a barrel-fermented blend of Viura with some 20% Malvasía Riojana, Garnacha Blanca and other white varieties matured in new French oak barrels with the lees that where periodically stirred for ten months. The style of the wine is modern and clean, very lightly oaked, and feels quite fresh for a warm and early year such as 2017, with integrated acidity and a clean and tasty finish.

There are two whites now, the youngest of which is the 2016 Remírez de Ganuza Blanco, a barrel-fermented blend of 80% Viura and the remaining 20% Malvasía Riojana, Garnacha Blanca and other white varieties that matured in new French oak barrels with lees and batonnage for ten months. It's super clean and fresh, young and varietal, vibrant and lively, really impressive. The oak is neatly folded into the fruit. A great showing for this white. 25,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2017.

The white 2014 Remírez de Ganuza Blanco is a blend of 70% Viura, 20% Malvasía Riojana, 10% Garnacha Blanca and other white grapes that matured in new French oak barrels for nine months. This wine was first produced in 2013 and is different from a Reserva that will eventually be sold (I previewed it and it feels superb). This is the white that replaced the white R. Punto. It's very balsamic and still quite oaky, but there is a feeling of freshness underneath that made me think of a wine to age in bottle. I don't really like oaky wines, but white Rioja is a wine that needs oak and then needs time in bottle. There are hints of licorice, fennel and aniseed with a mélange of white flowers and fresh fruit. The palate has deep flavors and vibrant acidity, coming through clean and quite precise. 20,000 bottles produced.
