The 2005 Chianti Classico Poggio ai Frati is a vivid, vibrant wine. A beguiling, deep bouquet leads to dark cherries, graphite and minerals as this powerful, focused red opens up in the glass. Notes of smoke, iron and tar linger on the powerful finish. Today the 2005 Poggio ai Frati remains rather unyielding, particularly in its tannins, but it should develop nicely in bottle.
