The 2012 Friuli Colli Orientali Sauvignon Sol shows brighter floral characteristics (compared to the Sauvignon Peri). Honeysuckle and white lily give the wine great aromatic lift. Following a few minutes in the glass, Sauvignon Sol begins to impart rounder tones of yellow and exotic fruit that carry through to the midpalate. The 2010 Sauvignon Sol offers up freshly cut flowers, lime, crisp green apples and pears in a tight, focused style that is quite appealing. The wine fleshes out nicely on the mid-palate and finish, giving an impression of roudness while never abandoning its essential minerality. This mid-weight, gracious Sauvignon is absolutely delicious. In 2010 the production from Vigna del Peri, which is often bottled separately, was too small so the juice went into the Sol. The 2008 Sauvignon Sol sees an additional year of bottle age, which gives it greater body and richness. This shows lovely balance and class; the only thing it could use is a touch more varietal character. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015.
