The 2015 Tirant is very young and oaky, but it's better balanced than the Amadis. It's still too oaky, though, and not showing enough stuffing to overcome its élevage. 2,000 bottles produced.

The 2006 Tirant reveals a liquid minerality along with violets, a confiture of black fruits, and blackberry liqueur. Dense, layered, and powerful, it lacks only complexity. Rotllan Torra has been a reliable producer over the years. Importer: Chapillon - USA Wine West; www.usawinewest.com

The 2005 Tirant is composed of 35% Garnacha from a 90 year old parcel, 35% Mazuelo (Carinena) also 90 years of age, with the balance equal portions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot that was aged for 14 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it sports an enthralling nose of liquid mineral, exotic spices, incense, lavender, and roasted black fruits. Already complex, dense, sweetly fruited and structured for the long haul, this is a powerful, lengthy Priorat that should drink well through 2030, perhaps longer. The 2004 Tirant is made up of 35% Carinena, 30% Garnacha, and the balance Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. It also spent 12 months in French oak. A saturated purple in color, it exhibits a reticent nose of pain grille, mineral, incense, blackberry, and black cherry. It offers greater depth than the Amadis bottling albeit in a similar austere style. It will require extended cellaring but its prospect of adding some generosity to its masculine personality is considerably better. It will be in its prime from 2015 through 2024.
