The 2014 Zinfandel Old Vines sports a medium to deep garnet color and notes of baked blackberries, black raspberries and plum preserves with hints of Indian spices, menthol and licorice. Full-bodied, concentrated and framed with firm, chewy tannins, the black berry preserves and spice flavors are lifted by superb freshness, and linger on and on. Great value!

I tasted five Zinfandels from St. Francis. The 2013 Zinfandel Old Vines, made from 50- to 110-year-old vines, is a gorgeous Zinfandel – deep ruby purple, with loads of blackberry and black cherry fruit, full-bodied opulence, good purity and richness. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.

The 2012 Zinfandel Old Vines, from 50- to 110-year-old vines, is a fine value in Zinfandel. It exhibits plenty of briery, peppery, meaty, black cherry and strawberry fruit, and earth notes along with supple tannins, medium to full body, and a plush personality. Consume it over the next 4-5 years.
