With fruit from Serralunga d'Alba that starts off in cement vats and finishes in large oak cask, the 2019 Barolo Broglio shows a unique bouquet with a dry set of aromas that span from crushed rose to dusty mineral or rusty nail. This wine is unique in that regard. Broglio shows a lean garnet appearance in the glass, but this is deceiving because you get full-bodied power on the palate. This is a 4,800-bottle release.

The 2018 Barolo Broglio (with fruit from Serralunga d'Alba) is rich and savory with dark fruit and plenty of spice at the back. The effect is large in scope but also a bit monotone with general, broad-brush aromas. Dark and purple fruits segue to cured tobacco and sweet spice that are contrasted against a savory tone of rusty nail or iron ore.

A release of 6,700 bottles, the Schiavenza 2017 Barolo Broglio offers a robust aromatic and flavor profile that is driven not only by the ripeness of the vintage fruit but also by the oak rendering and extra spice. The wine shows a moment of softness or sweetness with cherry, dried raspberry and crème de cassis. Delicate notes of spice and tar also appear. The wine is soft and yielding in terms of structure and texture.
