The 2009 Pomedes (65% Pinot Bianco, 25% Friulano, 10% Rhine Riesling) comes across as heavy and lacking grace. The vintage was not kind to this wine and most other cuvees with prominent oak. Yellow stone fruit, spices and smoke wrap around the finish, but the wine never seems to fully come together. The 2007 Pomedes Bianco is a lush, textured white loaded with generous apricots, mango, pineapple, flowers and spices. In this vintage the Bianco is especially soft and reveals excellent length and persistence, even if a touch of verve is missing. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012. The ambitious 2000 Pomedes is a barrique-aged blend of 50% Pinot Bianco, 30% Tocai, and 20% late harvested Riesling. While dry, it has an oily personality, good texture, and full body. Aromas and flavors of honeyed citrus, apricots, and peaches are accompanied by an expansive, rich palate. The influence of wood is negligible despite aging of 12 months in barrel.
