The Sergio Mottura 2016 Latour a Civitella is a pure expression of Grechetto from Lazio's Civitella d'Agliano IGT appellation near the Umbria border. This wine benefits from some brief time in oak to build texture and aromatic intensity, with preserved lemon and fresh apricot. This is a mid-weight white with enough fiber and structure to pair with roast pheasant or chicken. Some 15,000 bottles were made.

The 2015 Latour a Civitella is a pure expression of Grechetto that has been aged briefly in oak, unlike the other whites released by Sergio Mottura. Packaged in a screwcap bottle, the wine cracks open to lively aromas of stone fruit, juicy grapefruit, saffron and beeswax. There's a distinct mineral note that appears as a faint trait at the back. This is a beautiful wine, and it's not as obvious as you might first think.

The 2011 Latour A Civitella is a delightful expression with a full and round disposition and a generous bouquet that is redolent of ripe fruit, plump apricot, toasted almond and fresh butter. The balance here is spot-on and the wine manages to be both elegant and powerful at the same time. The intensity is beautiful and the mouthfeel is equally compelling with a silky texture and smooth creaminess. This wine will age five years or more. It is aged in barrique for nine months inside an old tufo stone cave.

A monovarietal expression of Grechetto, the 2010 Latour a Civitella is an impressive and complete wine. Like the Poggio della Costa, it does a great job of delivering on the promises it makes. There’s a sweet note of peach and melon upfront with subtle tones of crushed mineral and white almond skin at the back. The mouthfeel is smooth, long and creamy. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016. The 2009 Latour A Civitella is another beautiful creation from Sergio Mottura. Compared to the other vintages of this wine that I have tasted, this one seems the most integrated and generous of all. It offers a full palate of ripe fruit aromas, toasted almond and mild spice. Grechetto delivers loads of intensity in the mouth and you definitely get that feeling here thanks to the smooth consistency and robust richness of the wine.
