Pale to medium ruby-purple, the 2017 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard has an open nose with scents of crushed blueberries and black cherries, licorice, perfumed earth, dried citrus and oodles of floral perfume. Medium-bodied and concentrated with nuanced fruits, it has a sturdy frame of grainy tannins, great freshness and a long, layered finish. 281 cases produced.

Pale to medium ruby-purple, the 2016 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard opens with black licorice and peppercorn hints over a core of crushed blueberries and black cherries, warm blackberries, turned earth and a lilac hint. Light to medium-bodied with luscious black and blue fruits in the mouth, it's framed by soft baking spice, firm, grainy tannins and mouthwatering acidity, finishing long on an earthy note. 503 cases produced.

Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard has a stemmy nose with underlying hints of Bing cherries, cranberries and underbrush, plus a waft of dried lavender. The palate offers a lot of bang with loads of savory, red berry and mineral layers marked by crisp acidity and a solid frame of chewy tannins, finishing long.

The 2014 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard is silky and lightly textured, with fine grain tannin, medium-bodied richness, notable structure and perfumed notes of potpourri, exotic spices and purple fruits. It's a beautiful Pinot Noir to drink over the coming 5-6 years.

My favorite of the Sta. Rita Hills releases, the 2013 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard offers sensational purity and elegance in its darker berry fruits, crushed flowers, underbrush and hints of mint. Seamless, silky and refined, it still has plenty of fruit and texture, and shows terrific focus on the finish. I'm a fan and this bottle drank beautifully over the three days I had the bottle open. It will have a decade or more of overall longevity.
