Last Tasted 6/92 I hope there is some interest in a tasting note for this wine, particularly in view of the enthusiasm for not only the wines of the Rhone Valley, but for Rhone Valley blends from California. Since Carignane often plays an important part in many California Rhone blends, I was intrigued as to what this wine would taste like. Amazingly, the color resembles that of a seven or eight year old wine. However, the nose suggests something much older. The first impressions of a dirty barnyard and sweaty saddle leather blew off to reveal aromas of ripe black fruits. This intensely earthy wine has full body, as well as surprisingly fresh fruit, but little complexity or personality. Nevertheless, the fact that the wine remains respectable and intact at age 57 is remarkable.
