Six Sigma’s Tempranillo continues to be one of the most interesting bottlings of this Spanish variety in California. This ’06, like its predecessors, is dry and medium-bodied, and shows a pleasant combination of cherry fruit brightened with fine acidity and wrapped into ripe, smooth tannins. This is the best California Tempranillo in this critic’s experience. Granted, the competition hasn’t been all that great, but this wine stands for itself. It’s full-bodied, dry and crisply tannic, and the cherry-berry, bitter chocolate, and fig flavors have just the right touch of new smoky oak. Sourced from a single vineyard, this is Six Sigma’s first Tempranillo, and breaks new ground for this Spanish variety. Definitely a wine to watch.——S.H.(2/1/2008)—— 91
