Aged for 20 months in French oak barriques (50% new), the 2009 John Martin Reserve Pinot Noir presents notes of red currants, cranberries and mulberries over hints of dried leaves, cedar and chocolate. Full bodied and richly fruited in the mouth, it’s well supported by refreshing acidity and a medium level of chewy tannins though there’s still a good amount of oak showing through in the long finish. It is approachable now, for those that like a toastier style, though it will be at its best between 2012-2016+. Importer: Foley Family Wines, Healdsburg, CA
