Aromas of dried fruit and nuts follow through to a medium-bodied palate with a tight bead of bright fruit and fine, lightly drying tannins. Very direct and focused with a good forward drive of acidity. Give this another while for the tannins to dissolve further. Try from mid-2024.

The Tedeschi 2019 Valpolicella Superiore Maternigo shows a pretty garnet hue and light to medium concentration with a bright bouquet focused primarily on bold fruit flavors. There is spice and earth woven into the wine's mid-weight texture. Distant sweetness or softness folds into a powerful 15% alcohol content. This is a pleasant and accessible wine to pair with grilled meats. Production is 13,300 bottles.

The Tedeschi 2017 Valpolicella Superiore Maternigo sees a straightforward blend of 40% Corvina, 40% Corvinone and 20% Rondinella harvested from a panoramic three-hectare vineyard site with white and yellow marls soil. From this special spot comes a generous, mid-weight red with bold cherry, blackberry and notes of iron or rusty nail. You also get some violet and dried blue flower. Production is 13,300 bottles.

A medium- to full-bodied red, with grippy tannins, this offers a tightly knit mix of black cherry, wild sage, iron and dried fig flavors that open nicely on the lingering finish. This is an easy-drinking blend of 40% Corvina, 30% Corvinone and 30% Rondinella. The 2015 Valpolicella Superiore Maternigo is perfect for pizza or burgers and fries. The grapes come from the Maternigo vineyard, occupying 31 hectares in the Mezzane area, which lost much of its fruit in this vintage to a violent hailstorm. So, only 13,600 bottles were produced. The quality, however, has remained happily intact, with bright berry and dried blackberry flavors.
