Most wines from 2021 felt very young, a little closed and perhaps a little reductive too, like the 2021 Les Tosses. The wine has moderate ripeness and alcohol at 13.5% and has a medium-bodied palate with very fine tannins. It's still young and undeveloped. 3,208 bottles produced.

The 2019 Les Tosses is their top-of-the range, single-vineyard Cari?ena from a high-altitude vineyard. It is open and expressive, juicy and approachable, even if it felt quite young and evolving at a slow pace. It has an elegant and perfumed nose, with none of the rusticity Cari?ena can sometimes show. There is finesse and very tasty flavors, but it doesn't seem to have huge complexity. Will it become more complex with more time in bottle? 1,068 bottles produced.

The pure Cari?ena 2018 Les Tosses fermented in concrete with indigenous yeast, and half of the wine matured in oak foudre and the other half in concrete, as they are lowering the percentage of wine aged in oak. This is floral, aromatic and elegant, going back to the character of the 2016, when the wine almost felt like a Garnacha, fresh and elegant but also quite serious. It's nicely textured with the grainy mouthfeel from the slate soils, very tasty, clean and precise, and it finishes very long and dry. It might be a bit dizzy from the very recent bottling and should improve tremendously in bottle, as it has the balance and all the ingredients to do so. This should be long lived. It's quite compact, and this is a wine that always benefits from more time in the bottle, slowly revealing its Mediterranean character. 2,006 bottles were filled in September 2020.

The top Cari?ena 2017 Les Tosses is a little riper than the 2018 I tasted next to it, but it also has a little more acidity and freshness and comes through as equally balanced. This south-facing vineyard was planted 90 years ago on black slate soils, and its orientations makes the grapes ripen thoroughly and achieve full flavors. Seventy percent of the volume still matured in oak foudres, but this percentage is going to go down to 50% in 2018; eventually, the wine will be aged exclusively in concrete, as is the case with all of their wines. This is expressive and tasty, and it has elegance and freshness within its serious profile. It's very balanced and has a mixture of floral, red and black fruit with some graphite quality and a Mediterranean touch of herbs, even esparto grass. 2,800 bottles were filled in October 2019.

The 2016 Les Manyes is a hard act to follow, but I could have said the pure Cari?ena 2016 Les Tosses was a Garnacha, such is the elegance and the floral, nuanced nose! This might be the most elegant Cari?ena out there. It comes from a very old, steep vineyard in the village of Torroja on very dark slate soils. It matured in an oak foudre, quite old, and there is a nice note of graphite and wet slate, red and black cherries and a spice touch. It has great freshness, good acidity and is fluid and relaxed, powerful yet elegant and harmonious. 2,668 bottles were filled in July 2018.
