The 2010 Lo Mon is produced with a blend of old-vine and young-vine fruit, mostly Garnacha with about one-fourth Carinena and small percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, which aged in oak barrels for one year. It shows a bright ruby color and a nose of red and blue fruit with some shy notes of candied orange skin, pollen and honey, a little unusual in a red. It has good balance and freshness, with fine tannins and pure flavors, ending with a mineral feeling. A very good, special and balanced red Priorat. Drink 2014-2020.
Trossos del Priorat was created in 2004, they now produce 50,000 bottles per year. Tros is the Catalan language word for “piece” or “plot”, referring to a place and trossos is the plural, so you’ll find the word quite frequently. They are advised by Toni Coca, an oenologist who works with a number of wineries in the region.
