The 2007 AGIORGITIKO (this is an appellation Nemea wine; Greek custom is normally to just call an appellation Agiorgitiko simply “Nemea,” but since the label sensibly indicates it is Agiorgitiko, it is worth adopting that for clarity) was aged for 1 year in barrel, only 10% new. This Agiorgitiko is the epitome of the grape in many respects, pure, clean and aromatic, ethereal and elegant, with a bright, juicy finish and a hint of tartness, the acidity and fruit mingling nicely and creating a bit of a sour cherry nuance. With air, some lurking power becomes evident, too. What you won’t get here is a lot of depth or concentration, but there is also no artifice and the balance is impeccable. If you’re looking for sweet, jammy wines, this isn’t it. Taking this very graceful, Burgundian-styled wine for what it is, it is very attractive. It may not be the best ager, but at the moment it is singing. Drink now-2017. Importers: VOS Selections, New York, N.Y.; tel: (212) 967-6948 and Dionysos Imports, Manassas, Va; tel: (703) 392-7073
