The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pegrandi Riserva is an immensely impressive and thickly layered wine that delivers the subtlety of a brass horn in a marching band. You pretty much get it all here: Unyielding power and intensity, classic Amarone tertiary aromas of resin and tar, loads of dried fruit and raisin, and the kind of long finish that can be counted in minutes. Wines like this are magical and awe-inspiring, but far from practical when it comes to pairing them with the foods we love most. Residual sugar clocks in at 10 grams per liter. Drink 2015-2026.
Alberto Vaona farms ten hectares of vines located on hillsides that range from a comfortable 200 to 250 meters above sea level, trained with both the traditional Pergola and Guyot systems. The selection of top Amarones that carry the Pegrandi designation are consistently among the best in the region.
