The Villa Mangiacane 2017 Chianti Classico shows some warm-vintage ripeness with cherry and blackberry but also transitions to lifted and more elegant tones of licorice, cola and grilled herb. This is a simple, easy-drinking Tuscan red for your favorite pasta, with soft tannins and lots of easy fruit on the close.

The 2015 Chianti Classico is made with 85% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino. Villa Mangiacane has a total of 304 hectares, of which 43 are vines and 24 are olive trees. Fruit for this wine comes from the ten-hectare parcel closest to the actual villa. This estate makes about 100,000 bottles per year, of which 40 to 50,000 are Chianti Classico. From a warm and sunny vintage, this mid-weight wine shows plump berry notes with light notes of spice, leather and crushed gravel.

This vintage marks the estate's move to an in-house winemaker. He is Graziano Santoro, and his title is Estate Manager and Winery Director. The 2010 Chianti Classico (bottled in 2012) is holding on very nicely. This was one of the best surprises of this estate tasting. The wine is delicate and fine with good volume. Perhaps the acidity could be brighter, but the wine compensates with sharp, albeit slightly evolved, fruit flavors. If you have a bottle, you should drink it now.
