The 2011 Gigondas, which is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre that’s aged half in concrete and half in barrel, offers up pretty, perfumed notes of blackcurrant, creamy licorice, charred toast and crushed rock-like minerality on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, pure and beautifully textured, with surprising richness in the vintage, it should be even better in another year or so, and drink nicely for upward of a decade.
