Von Strasser entered the Gruner game a couple of years ago, and while this bottling isn’t exactly cheap, it sure is good. It’s very rich in Asian pear, peach tart, crunchy green apple, honeysuckle and spice flavors, and while it tastes a little sweet, it turns crisp and clean on the finish. This unoaked wine, made from the red-hot Austrian variety, is very dry and high in acidity. It has a grassy, gooseberry tang reminiscent of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, with some richer, chewier notes of figs and green apples.
