Filtered a week before my tasting and bottled the day before, the 2021 Riesling Vom Grauen Schiefer is pure and fresh on the crystalline and slate-driven nose that shows clear fruit with pure slate and lemon juice aromas. The wine is light but mouth-filling, elegant and really dry (three grams of residual sugar), with racy acidity intermingled with greenish fruit aromas only on the finish and aftertaste. 11% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.

Bottled the other day, the 2019 Riesling Vom Grauen Schiefer is clear and very intense on the aromatic nose that displays ripe, juicy apricot and white peach aromas. Juicy and perfectly round on the crystalline and salty palate, this is a rich, intense, very aromatic and almost Traminer-like Pündericher Riesling with a long and juicy finish. Impressively intense. The purity of the rocky terroir is perfectly covered by 3.5 grams of residual sugar that gives texture, roundness and fruit but also a long and mineral finish with grip. Applause! Tasted in September 2020.

Busch's 2018 Riesling Vom Grauen Schiefer is the purest and most stony-flavored of the trio wines from red-blue-gray slate soils. The Riesling from gray slate is almost unwelcoming in its ascetic, stony, crunchy, lemony and yeasty purity, which might be challenging for beginners looking for fruit but is surely exciting for true Riesling freaks. The nose is definitely complex and develops with air, becoming finer and slightly more fruity. It's definitely a wine for nerds, though. The palate is very elegant and refined, revealing a full-bodied palate with rich, intense and concentrated yet also juicy fruit and remarkable complexity on the sustainable and mineral finish. 12.5% alcohol. Tasted from AP 3019 in July 2020.

The 2017 Riesling Vom Grauen Schiefer is pure and flinty on the crunchy, elegant and aromatic nose that represents the gray slate part of the classified Marienburg. Bottled in September 2017, the palate is pretty intense, lush and well-balanced and reveals an intensely mineral and well-structured finish. The 2017 is still quite reductive and will benefit from generous aeration. Tasted in March 2019.

The 2016 Riesling "Vom Grauen Schiefer" offers a clear and intense bouquet with flinty notes and ripe, intense fruit aromas. Medium to full-bodied, lush and with crystalline acidity, this is a salty-piquant and firmly structured dry Riesling with mouth-filling fruit, fine tannins and a salty aftertaste. Bottled in September; tasted in February 2018.
