I remember a time when the Margaret was $40AUD. As a drinker, I knew it was too cheap (we all did), and I'd buy it at every opportunity. The price has risen considerably within the last decade, and to be perfectly honest, it's probably a little closer now to where it belongs. It's a strong Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend: 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 8% Malbec. On the nose, this 2019 Margaret Woodlands Vineyard speaks of fresh leather, licorice, star anise, clove, brine, sage, burnt butter, black tea and chewing tobacco. The wine, due to the cool season, has a distinct levity on the palate, and it is delicate and fine yet lingering too. Very good.

A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 16% Malbec, the 2016 Margaret is a smooth, fine-textured red. Medium to full-bodied, it's less concentrated and robust than the Clementine, but it's nicely aromatic and supple, with a long, elegant finish.

Powerful and savory, with bay leaf and eucalyptus details to the sleek currant and cassis notes at the core. Spice, tobacco and black tea accents echo on the finish. Comprised of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 8% Malbec, the 2014 Margaret and is very deep purple-black in color with lovely blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, violet, cloves and cinnamon stick notes plus a touch of chocolate. Medium-bodied, taut and muscular, this blend has commendably firm tannins with a very long baking spice laced finish. A very classy Bordeaux Blend indeed.

Coming 100% for the Woodlands "home" vineyard, the 2013 Margaret is made up of 78% Cabernet, 11% Merlot and 11% Malbec, and shows a deep garnet-purple color. This blend has pronounced notes of blackberry preserves, mulberries and plums, with cedar, earth, underbrush, menthol and subtle herbs. The palate is firm and finely grained in texture, while still being elegant, long and earthy on the finish.
