Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2008 Patchwork Shiraz gives moderately intense aromas of blackberry, tar, loam, espresso and bacon fat. Very juicy in the mouth and with crisp acid, it has a medium level of grainy tannins and a medium-full body. The finish is long. Drinking now, it should continue to maintain its vibrancy to 2014. The 2007 Patchwork Shiraz was raised in a mix of new and seasoned French and American oak. It is dark ruby-colored with a nose of pepper, violets, smoked meat, blueberry, and black cherry. On the palate it exhibits some complexity, savory flavors, and some elegance. It over-delivers for its modest price. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
