The 2008 Ataulfos is 100% Garnacha sourced from a single biodynamically farmed vineyard with 60-year-old vines. It was fermented in French oak vats and macerated for 60 days with the stems prior to aging for 16 months in 500-liter French oak. It offers up darker fruit than the Pielago cuvee along with greater density, opulence, and length. It already displays considerable complexity but if given another 3-4 years in the cellar, it should prove to be quite special. The wine’s drinking window will extend from 2014 to 2023 at the least.
Daniel Jimenez Landi is one of Spain’s new star vignerons.
