The 2006 Aglianico del Vulture Il Sigillo is made from fruit that is left to slightly over-ripen on the vine, although you would never know that just by tasting what is in the glass. The Sigillo deftly balances ripeness and minerality to a degree very few other wines are capable of matching. Endowed with notable clarity and precision, the Sigillo impresses for its superb harmony and class. Super-ripe red cherries, sage, rosemary, earthiness, licorice and leather are just some of the nuances that flow from this sumptuous Aglianico. Readers who want to know why Aglianico is considered one of Italy’s greatest and most noble grapes need to taste the Sigillo. It is magnificent! Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026.
This is a fabulous set of new releases from Cantina del Notaio, one of Basilicata’s leading estates. From top to bottom, these may very well be the finest wines I have ever tasted here.
