There's more than a hint of five spice and Asian deli on the nose of the 2009 Reserve Chardonnay: nutmeg, cumin and curry leaf jostle for prominence, with none of them winning out. The acidity here is nothing short of scintillating and props up the spice on the mid-palate. The fruit is more subdued here than in the Stevens Road or the Black Label from the same vintage, but the power is inarguable.
