Previously, I categorized this wine as a dessert rosé, but this year I'm calling it a dessert red because of its darkened color and ruby saturation. The 2013 Alto Adige Moscato Rosa (375 ml) is not an easy wine to understand on many levels. There is sweetness here, but the wine also delivers a hint of toasted sharpness and tannic firmness. The bouquet is redolent of dried rose petal, candied raspberry and cranberry jelly. It's hard to know what foods to pair with a wine like this.
