Pierre Morey was heartbroken that he was unable to offer a Montrachet in 1995 - he said that there were no Montrachets available for sale that were up to his standards and that therefore it was the first vintage that his negociant house did not produce one. In 1996, however, Morey secured sufficient quality juice on which to apply his winemaking magic. Exhibiting a stunning nose of smoked pork, liquid minerals, and honeysuckle, Morey-Blanc's 1996 Montrachet has awesome richness, layered depth and exquisite ripeness to it personality. Loads of stones, gravel, honeysuckle, and spicy oak can be found in this opulent, full-bodied, powerful, intricate, superbly refined and extraordinarily long wine. This gem's harmony, grace and muscle assure that it will age admirably well. Projected maturity: 2005-2015.
The rating, with the range of scores in parentheses, indicates the wine was tasted from cask, not bottle.
